Although in most respects the law firm business in Central Europe is on par with other sophisticated practices in the rest of the world, coaching is one thing that has not been as widely adopted as elsewhere. This article addresses the questions of what coaching is, what it offers lawyers and law firms, and whether it should be more widely embraced by the legal profession in Central Europe.

While Polish public entities continue to express an ever-increasing interest in public-private partnerships (PPP) as a method of discharging public tasks, PPP activity has remained disappointingly slow in recent years. As can be seen from the 2009-2021 PPP Market Report by the Ministry of Regional Funds and Policies, just 24 procedures to select a private partner were launched in 2021, with PLN 627 million on the table, resulting in a paltry ten PPP contracts signed, worth PLN 172 million all told.

For the past decade, to boost its long-term economic outlook and service the needs of the growing population, Turkey has used the public-private partnership model extensively in the infrastructure sector.

By most counts, 2021 was a successful year for the Romanian M&A market. Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii Deputy Managing Partner Stefan Damian, Nestor Nestor Diculescu Kingston Petersen Partner Gabriela Cacerea, Dentons Managing Partner Perry Zizzi, and Wolf Theiss M&A Partner Ileana Glodeanu have many reasons to believe 2022 could be a good year as well, but also quite a few to expect a slowdown in activity.

Dentons has advised GeneProof founders Radek Horvath and Milos Dendis on the company's merger with the American Laboratory Products Company, leading to the establishment of the ALPCO Group. Glatzova & Co and Sidley Austin advised the Silicon Valley Bank on financing the merger. Goodwin Procter and Schoenherr reportedly advised Ampersands, the owner of ALPC.

Dentons and TGS Baltic have advised the Republic of Lithuania on the EUR 650 million issuance of 2.125% notes due 2032, pursuant to the country's Euro Medium Term Note Program. Sorainen advised underwriters Barclays and BNP Paribas. Reportedly, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised the underwriters as well.

Dentons has recently announced its practice and sector group leadership appointments for the European Region, for the term ending December 2024. Although it would appear that no fewer than 10 000 online platforms operate in the EU, the digital market seems to be moulded by just a handful of them. This raised concerns among the Authorities in terms of, among others, transparency and fair competition. The Digital Markets Act (DMA), together with the upcoming Digital Services Act (DSA), forms a central part of the package proposed by the Commission to address such concerns, setting up specific obligations for the digital giants, the so-called gatekeepers.
