CMS has advised PKN Orlen on the Olefins III petrochemical complex construction agreement with Korean contractor Hyundai Engineering Co. and Spanish contractor Tecnicas Reunidas.

The Olefins III petrochemical complex is located in Plock, Poland, covering almost 100 hectares. The PLN 13.5 billion project is set to be completed in 2024 and begin production in early 2025. According to CMS, Olefins III will increase the Plock plant's production capacity by about 60% and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30% per tonne of product.

According to the firm, "global trends show a gradual decrease in demand for refinery products, with a growing demand for higher-margin petrochemicals. The new Olefins III complex will produce petrochemical products needed for the production of everyday items, including cleaning products, hygiene and medical products, as well as car parts, household appliances, and electronic devices or synthetic fibers."

PKN Orlen manages six refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, and conducts mining operations in Poland and Canada.

The CMS team was led by Partner Marcin Bejm and Counsel Michal Andruszkiewicz and included Partners Agnieszka Skorupinska and Jakub Wieczorek, Counsel Piotr Nowicki, Senior Associates Jan Radziuk, Aleksandra Kuznicka-Cholewa, and Wojciech Szopinski, and Associates Pawel Ura, Anis Ben Amer, Szymon Klimkowski, Marta Tarkowska, Weronika Stelmaszyk, and Maciej Brezden.

The contractors used in-house counsel.
