By now, our regular readers know that each issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine has a special "Market Spotlight" section on a particular CEE jurisdiction, and each contains an "Experts Review" feature, presenting articles from one firm in each jurisdiction on a specific (and rotating) subject. The Special October 2018 issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine — online now for subscribers — is unique, as, for the first time, we direct our attention to the significance of investment and business coming from another part of the world: China.

If our publication of the August issue of the CEE Legal Matters made a hot month hotter, the news that we have published the almost-impossibly hip September issue of the magazine will make a cool month even cooler. So be it. The tremendous September 2018 issue is already bringing a soothing breath of fresh air to our printer’s offices, and hard copies will soon by sliding their way to to our valued subscribers. 

Scaling the Summit: On the 7th of June, less than eight hours after saying final good-byes to the private practitioners attending the Deal of the Year Awards Banquet, CEE Legal Matters greeted the hundred plus in-house counsel attending the fourth annual regional General Counsel Summit, located this year at the Congress Center of Prague’s Czech National Bank.

Representatives of more than sixty law firms from across Central and Eastern Europe and from as far away as the United States, United Kingdom, and China came together in Prague on June 6, 2018, for the first ever Dealer’s Choice international law firm conference and CEE Deal of the Year Awards Banquet.

After a valuable and information-rich day of panel discussions on important business development and law firm management topics, participants reconvened that evening (and were joined by several dozen newcomers) at the first ever CEE Legal Matters Annual Banquet and Deal of the Year Awards Ceremony – a celebration of CEE’s legal markets and the lawyers who work within them. Awards were presented for 17 qualifying markets in CEE – plus a surprise award for overall CEE Deal of the Year – with many of the lawyers playing key roles in nominated deals joining the celebration.

We have to apologize. The hot days of the European summer just got hotter, with the sizzling August 2018 issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine heating up the CEE Legal Matters website and burning its way through the presses and mail on its way to their desks.

The special July issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine focused on the three major CEELM events this past June in Prague — the Fourth Annual General Counsel Summit, the first annual Dealer's Choice conference, and the 2017 CEE Deal of the Year Awards Banquet — is here!

The winners of the 2017 CEE Deal of the Year Awards were announced at the first ever CEE Legal Matters Deal of the Year Awards Banquet last night in Prague. The biggest smiles in the joyous and music-filled celebration of CEE lawyering, perhaps, were on the faces of Partners from Avellum and Sayenko Kharenko, which, along with White & Case and Latham & Watkins, won the award both for Ukrainian Deal of the Year and CEE Deal of the Year for their work on the 2017 Ukraine Eurobond Issue (a story initially reported by CEE Legal Matters on October 2, 2017).

The Dealer’s Choice conference and Deal of the Year Awards Banquet on June 6 and the annual General Counsel Summit on June 7-8  are less than a week away. If you haven’t yet made arrangements to join these celebrations of lawyering -- the largest events for business lawyers in the history of CEE, it’s not too late. Prague awaits.
