Kochanski & Partners has successfully represented Polish journalist Renata Grochal in appellate proceedings before the Regional Court in Warsaw in a defamation case brought against her by Telewizhja Polska.

Grochal was accused of defamation by TVP following her tweet about the former Mayor of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz, who was murdered in 2019. According to Kochanski & Partners, in the wake of an assault against Telewizhja Polska journalist Magdalena Ogorek, Grochal commented that, “the right wing has completely lost its mind after the attack on Mrs. Ogorek (which I condemn). Do not turn this attack into another propaganda campaign. Fewer lies = fewer negative emotions.”

Kochanski & Partners reported that, after the case was dismissed by the first instance court in September 2020, TVP appealed. According to the firm, the case was subsequently referred to the Regional Court in Warsaw which, on January 8, 2021, upheld the decision of the first instance court and dismissed the case.

According to Kochanski & Partners, the ruling is final and non-appealable.

Kochanski & Partners’s team was led by Partner Mateusz Ostrowski.
