Dentons has announced that Partner Pawel Debowski will be leaving the firm to become Managing Partner of private equity investments manager Cornerstone Partners at the beginning of 2021.

"After so many years in the legal career, I have concluded it's high time for some significant changes," Pawel Debowski commented on the move. "I have thought about it for a long time and have decided that the best solution would be to apply my legal experience in business. I am incredibly excited about this new chapter in my professional life."

According to a Cornerstone Partners press release, “Debowski is one of the most respected and recognized real estate professionals in Poland as well as in Central and Eastern Europe.” According to that press release, “Debowski has advised institutional clients and major international companies operating in CEE and Western Europe which include investors, developers, lenders, and construction companies.”

Debowski began his career with Weil Gotshal and Manges in 1991. Later on, he spent five years at Nabarro Nathanson and another five at CMS Cameron McKenna. He left CMS in 2001 to become the Chairman of the Management Board at GTC, but returned to the firm in 2002. His second stint with CMS lasted until 2006, when he moved to Clifford Chance. In 2010 Debowski joined Dentons as a partner and Head of Real Estate, and 2014 he became Chairman of Global Real Estate (Europe) at the firm.

Debowski received his master’s degree from the University of Warsaw in 1990.

“I’m delighted it was Pawel Debowski who joined the group of five managing partners at Cornerstone," commented Przemyslaw Krych, Cornerstone Partners’ founder. "Now, the fund has the strongest business team in the market,”  "With his vast knowledge in the field of real estate law, international reputation, and contacts, [Debowski] provides excellent additional muscle for us."

In anticipation of Debowski's departure, Dentons recently announced that Partner Piotr Szafarz has been appointed Head of CEE Real Estate at the firm (as reported by CEE Legal Matters on December 1, 2020).
