With COVID-19 still on the prowl for victims like the titular focus of a gothic horror story, CEE Legal Matters will change the prevailing narrative next week by announcing the winner of the 2019 CEE Deal of the Year Award.

To make the process more entertaining and heighten the drama, the five deals receiving the most votes from our distinguished CEE Deal of the Year Final Selection Committee will be announced on the CEELM website on Monday, July 27th, with one deal being removed each day and the final winner announced on Friday, July 31st.

Although the 2019 CEE Deal of the Year Award remains, at this point, unannounced, the country-specific awards were announced on April 1, 2020.

The first CEE Deal of the Year Award was won in 2018 by Avellum, Latham & Watkins, Sayenko Kharenko, and White & Case for their work on the 2017 Ukraine Eurobond Issue. The second CEE Deal of the Year Award was won in 2019 by CMS, Dentons, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Ropes & Gray, Kirkland & Ellis, and Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii for their work on Advent’s Acquisition of Zentiva from Sanofi.

Will those firms be successful again, or will they be forced to step back and allow other firms to step to the spotlight this year? Tune in next week to see. And to the 19 firms that worked on the five deals under consideration: Good luck!
