Once again, and consistent as always with its mission to inform and serve in-house counsel across Central and Eastern Europe, CEE Legal Matters has launched the 2016 version of its highly regarded CEE Corporate Counsel Survey, providing an opportunity for General Counsel and Heads of Legal across CEE to share their preferences, key strategies, and best practices with one another.

As always, the results of the survey will be presented and analyzed in the widely-read and influential CEE Corporate Counsel Best Practices Handbook, and those Chief Legal Officers who participate in the Survey — as almost 700 did last year — will receive a hard copy free of charge.

The survey is available here, and the deadline for completing it is August 15.

This year’s Survey and Handbook — both sponsored by Baker & McKenzie, Slaughter and May, ELIG, DLA Piper, and Karanovic & Nikolic — will focus on a number of subjects of particular relevance to Chief Legal Officers, including their priorities for 2016, perceived legal risk areas, managing external counsel, and more. The Handbook will also include, for the first time, an extensive and useful CEE Law Firm Directory.

David Stuckey, Executive Editor of CEE Legal Matters, believes the Survey-and-Handbook are ever-more important tools for Chief Legal Officers in Central and Eastern Europe. “Knowing what your peers are doing, and how, is critical to success in any profession — and for lawyers perhaps especially so. But as chances to share information about best practices and useful strategies to peers and counterparts in the in-house world are few and far between, this is an especially valuable opportunity. As a result, we hope General Counsel and Heads of Legal across CEE will take the 10-15 minutes necessary to complete the Survey, and we are delighted to reward those that do with the resulting Handbook, free of charge.”

In addition to receiving a free hard copy of the report itself, participants who complete the survey will, as last year, be entitled to a 40% discount on tickets to the 2016 General Counsel Summit, scheduled for October 6-7 in Istanbul.

Radu Cotarcea, Managing Editor of CEE Legal Matters — which is organizing and hosting the GC Summit — believes the location and concept of the event are, in combination, uniquely significant this year. “As CEE itself continues to recover, economically, from years of dormancy, and as investment comes back into CEE, the region also finds itself right at the center of controversy and political and ethnic upheaval. From the refugees fleeing war and destabilization in the Middle East to the various factions and ideologies competing for dominance in Europe itself, Southeastern Europe is right at the epicenter of the world’s focus. We’re proud to place our event in this historical and geopolitical center, and we believe the location will inspire significant conversation and consideration about how the crises of the moment are affecting and will affect business across the region.”

“Not to mention,” Cotarcea said, "Istanbul has a special place in my heart, and I love sharing it with friends. We’re committed to making sure everyone has a wonderful time.”

The 2016 GC Summit is sponsored by Baker & McKenzie, Slaughter and May, ELIG, Moral Law, Kolcuoglu & Demirkan, and Vasil Kisil & Partners — we thank them for their support.

The 2014 and 2015 reports are available in electronic format here and here, respectively.
